This study examines the field of audiovisual translation, or AVT for short, which has seen a recent increase in scholarly interest. AVT is especially varied since it includes captioning (subtitles created using various technologies) and revoicing (translation utilizing an additional vocal track, such as dubbing, subtitling and voice-over ); the importance of cultural adaptation on audiovisual translation; the nature of audiovisual material determines which audiovisual translation modality is used.
