In an era defined by information overload, artificial intelligence, and complex global challenges, critical thinking has become an indispensable competency for university students. Despite being a top priority for employers and a cornerstone of higher education, many graduates lack well-developed analytical skills. This article synthesizes contemporary research and pedagogical innovations to present a multi-faceted framework for improving critical thinking. It argues that effective development requires moving beyond implicit instruction toward explicit teaching, collaborative and inquiry-based learning, and the strategic integration of technology such as Generative AI. Furthermore, it emphasizes the cultivation of critical dispositions like intellectual humility and the necessity of systemic institutional support. By adopting these evidence-based strategies, universities can fulfill their mission of producing not just knowledgeable, but truly discerning graduates prepared for the complexities of the 21st century.
