The rapid growth of social media platforms has significantly influenced the lives of adolescents, shaping their communication, behavior, and mental well-being. This study explores both the positive and negative effects of social media on adolescent mental health. On one hand, social media provides opportunities for self-expression, social connection, and access to information. On the other hand, excessive use can lead to anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and social comparison. The paper analyzes key factors such as screen time, cyberbullying, and online validation, which contribute to mental health challenges among teenagers. Furthermore, it highlights the importance of digital literacy, parental guidance, and balanced usage to minimize harmful effects. The findings suggest that while social media can be beneficial, its uncontrolled use poses serious risks to adolescents’ psychological well-being.
