Annotasiya

This article examines the role of cultural context in teaching English proverbs to Uzbek EFL learners. Proverbs are viewed not only as figurative language units but also as reflections of historical experience, social values, and collective wisdom. The paper discusses the main difficulties students face while learning English proverbs, including literal interpretation, failure to understand implied meaning, and incorrect comparison with Uzbek equivalents. It also highlights the importance of linguistic analysis, contextual explanation, comparison with native-language expressions, and communicative classroom tasks. The article argues that teaching proverbs through cultural context helps learners improve vocabulary, interpret authentic speech more effectively, and develop deeper intercultural awareness in the process of foreign language learning.
