This article examines the interplay between urban space and existential alienation in Virginia Woolf's Mrs Dalloway (1925). London is not a backdrop in the novel but a living, breathing force that shapes and fractures the inner lives of its characters. Through the parallel figures of Clarissa Dalloway and Septimus Warren Smith — representing hidden and visible alienation respectively — the article argues that the city is both the setting and the engine of modern psychological isolation.
