This article examines effective techniques for teaching genetics- and genetic-engineering-related vocabulary to medical students within English for Specific Purposes (ESP) courses. The discussion is structured around three fundamental didactic questions: what to teach, whom to teach, and how to teach. Particular attention is paid to principles of terminology selection, contextualized presentation, task-based learning, simulations of medical situations, discussion, and project work. The article argues that durable lexical competence develops when terminology is connected with authentic professional situations, recurrent retrieval, word formation, collocation, and purposeful spoken and written communication.
