English is spoken in many parts of the world, and as a result, it has developed a variety of accents. These accents differ primarily in phonetic and phonological features, such as the pronunciation of vowels, consonants, intonation, and rhythm. Understanding these differences helps linguists analyze how pronunciation changes depending on region, social group, and historical and cultural factors. Studying English accents provides a deeper understanding of the processes of language change and variation in general.
